Police said on Saturday emergency services were called to Eagle Stadium in Melbourne’s southwest suburb of Werribee late Friday afternoon.
Another boy, aged 15, is assisting the police in their investigations and has been released without charge.
The rest of the games scheduled for Friday have been canceled. Some of the games involved children as young as 7 or 8 years old.
Onlookers reported seeing a man running with a knife in his hand.
A woman whose daughter was playing basketball at the time told local media the incident was “shocking.”
“My friend saw someone on the ground in the hallway just after being stabbed,” she told local media. “These were U8 games and it’s lucky that nothing more serious has happened. “
