It is believed that a 12-year-old boy’s stabbing in a bouncy castle at his eight-year-old sister’s birthday party could have been triggered by an argument over stone throwing.
The child was stabbed three times in the leg after two men stormed Bootle’s front path and into Bootle’s backyard, cornering him on the inflatable.

The youngster was struck by a flurry of kicks and punches before the blade was repeatedly plunged into his leg, in front of up to 14 terrified children.

ECHO can reveal how the alarming attack may have been sparked by a stone-throwing row in the moments leading up to the assault on Southport Road.

The family of the 12-year-old said the boy visited a nearby store just after 2 p.m. yesterday with a friend and was walking home.

Stones had been thrown between the two of them, or at streetlights, his relative added, as they played together.

But they say a man “mistakenly” thought a stone had been thrown on his neighboring property.

Two men were seen ambushing the back garden party at around 2:30 p.m. and heading immediately towards the 12-year-old.

He attempted to escape on the inflatable, but was cornered and subjected to the vicious attack.

The boy is about to have surgery on his injuries and remains in the hospital, with his mother by his bedside.

Earlier today, police confirmed they had arrested a 20-year-old man from Bootle on suspicion of being injured in section 18.

He has been taken into police custody and will be questioned by detectives.

Police called the attack on a child of such a young age “despicable” and said stabbing was the target.

Chief Detective Inspector Gayle Rooney said: “While it is nice to have made a quick arrest, our investigation is continuing and we are gathering all the information to piece together the circumstances.
