UPDATE 1:34 p.m. PT – Friday April 9, 2021

The White House has rejected requests from states to send more doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

According to the White House coronavirus response coordinator, there are plans to send additional staff to help with the vaccination, but no additional doses will be sent.

Michigan is one of those states that has called for more vaccines, with Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer pressuring Joe Biden for more doses due to the spike in COVID-19 cases in his state.

“We have been speaking with the DC administration regularly for the past few days and will continue to do so. Anyone looking at a COVID map knows that Michigan is unquestionably a national hotspot right now, ”Whitmer said. “My team and I have had regular conversations with the National COVID Team and we have asked for more vaccines.”

The White House coronavirus coordinator defended the denial of the request for additional doses, saying the vaccine was still needed by tens of millions of people across the country.
