The incident comes as Russian President Vladimir Putin massages tens of thousands of troops and heavy military equipment near Russia’s border with Ukraine amid fears of “all-out war.”

The US aircraft is seen from the cockpit of the Russian fighter jet off the Kamchatka Peninsula, according to reports.

“To identify the aerial target and prevent violation of the Russian state border, a MiG-31 fighter from the Eastern Military District air defense forces was scrambled,” said the Russian National Defense Control Center.

“The Russian fighter’s crew identified the air target as a US Air Force RC-135 strategic reconnaissance aircraft and escorted it over the Pacific Ocean. “

The statement said the Russians acted “in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace.”

“Violations of the state border have been avoided,” he said.

In recent months, Russia has claimed that NATO has stepped up its air operations near the Russian border with such flights posing the “risk of accidental escalation.”

It comes as the Russian-Ukrainian crisis could “erupt into all-out war” days after the Kremlin threatened to “end” Kiev as military tensions were pushed to breaking point.

The United States is sending two warships across the Bosporus to the Black Sea, while Russia is also stepping up naval deployments in the region.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry said: “A notice was sent to us two weeks ago through diplomatic channels that two American warships would pass through the Black Sea, in accordance with the Montreux Convention. The ships will remain in the Black Sea until May 4. “

Western and Ukrainian officials have expressed concerns in recent weeks over the build-up of Russian troops along the border with Ukraine.

Concerns escalated on Friday when US Secretary of State Antony Blinken met with his French and German counterparts.

The State Department said Blinken, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian discussed the need for Russia to end its military build-up and fiery rhetoric.

Putin, in a telephone conversation with Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan on Friday, accused Ukraine of “dangerous provocative actions” in the Donbass region.

And Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko has raised concerns over what he claims is an increase in Black Sea activity by powers that have no coastline in the region. – an apparent reference in the United States.

“The number of visits by NATO countries and the length of stay of (their) warships have increased,” he told Interfax news agency.
