Queen resumes royal duties after Prince Philip’s death

13 avril 2021The Queen undertook his first royal duty since Prince Philip died on April 9 at the age of 99.

Her Majesty organized a retirement ceremony for the former Lord Chamberlain,
Earl Peel, April 13, according to the Press Association. Earl Peel was due to retire on March 31 with the new Lord Chamberlain, Lord Andrew Parker, baron Parker de Minsmere, to take the job the next day.

“In my 14 years in this role, I have witnessed a lot of positive changes in royal homes,” said Earl Peel when he announced last spring that he would be stepping down. “It was of course both a great privilege and a pleasure to participate in so many important events and to be able to serve Her Majesty and the Royal Household in this unique position.

The Lord Chamberlain oversees the conduct and general affairs of the Royal Household and serves as the channel of communication between the Sovereign and the House of Lords. The role is also to organize the Queen’s ceremonial activities or events intended for the public, such as Garden Parties at Buckingham Palace, State visits, weddings and the official opening of Parliament. Earl Peel also helped organize Philip’s funeral.

The queen and
Royal family are currently in the middle of a period of mourning, and although most of their commitments are canceled during this time, they can choose to continue to keep them if necessary. Members of the Royal Family will wear black or mourning bands during this time.

Philip will receive a
ceremonial royal funeral April 17 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle, which will start shortly before 3 p.m. local time. He will be buried in the royal vault under the chapel.
