Actor Dominic Purcell says he is “stepping away” from his role as Mick Rory, aka Heatwave, in The CW’s “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” on Friday night in posts that have since been deleted from social media.

Variety reports that in a caption updated on Saturday, he claimed that the original message was that he needed to laugh “and the press has gone mad.”

However, he maintains that he is still leaving the show, saying, “Yes, I am leaving @cw_legendsoftomorrow but I will come back periodically. It’s a handshake deal with my boss Phil Klemmer. I have no problem with the @warnerbrostv studio. “

Purcell’s original ad suggested the decision stemmed from some sort of bureaucratic conflict, but the original post also thanked the show for the experience and said “lots of love to everyone. I haven’t lost sight of how lucky I am. He also asked his regular cast colleagues, Caity Lotz and Nick Zano, to take care of the newcomers to the show.

Purcell has played Mick on the show since the pilot and has been a regular in the sixth season being filmed. This season will wrap up filming in about 2-3 weeks, ending filming a week after its May 2 premiere.

In February, Purcell reportedly said in an Instagram post that he would be leaving at the end of Season 7 when his contract was over and that he had no plans to quit the show until then. This message has since been deleted.

For now, it looks like Purcell will be full-time in season six, but will only make brief appearances in season seven. Neither DC nor The CW have commented on Purcell’s recent statements.

This follows the abrupt departures of Brandon Routh, Courtney Ford and Maisie Richardson-Sellers last year. With Purcell out, that leaves Lotz as the only member of the original cast remaining in the seventh season.
