A confessed pedophile who took a five-year-old girl to a campsite in Tasmania reportedly told prison staff his intention was to ‘eat’ the child.
Cecil Maurice Mabb, 42, pleaded guilty to assault and attempted kidnapping of the girl in Montagu on January 24.
Mabb reportedly told staff at Ridson Prison that he confessed to being a pedophile because it was better than “what he really was,” Crown Prosecutor Yolanda Prence told in court, according to The Mercury.
“He told the staff that he took the little girl so he could eat her. ”
But defense attorney Hannah Phillips told the court there was no evidence Mabb ever said he wanted to eat the girl.
She said her client claimed to have been encouraged by other inmates to make up a ridiculous story in order to get more serious drugs behind bars.

Mabb caught the five-year-old while cycling at Montagu Campground in the northwestern state around 4:30 p.m. with a friend.
The children’s parents had set up their tents as the two men made their way to a boat launch.
Mabb was parked in the nearby bush in his ute before grabbing the screaming girl and throwing her into his car.
He had his hands around the girls’ necks choking him as he made his way to the beach while his four-year-old friend ran to their parents.
“This man scared me,” he told his parents according to The Mercury.
“The man has …”
Parents and other campers at the site have launched a desperate search for the child.
With the help of the police, the girl was found less than an hour later, about a kilometer away on a beach.
The girl told the man who found her that “someone brought me here and I don’t know how to get back,” the court said. She was very dizzy and confused after the incident.
The girl told her parents that she could not breathe or talk when the man suffocated her.
She was taken to the North West Regional Hospital for treatment.

Mabb then called the police who told them he had attempted to kidnap a young child and was on his way home. Police set up a roadblock at his home in Roseberry.
He was not found there, but the police located him from his phone service after he called again. He was eventually found by rangers, whom he ran while holding a hammer shouting “Run, run, you can run, you have to get out of here and call the police”.
Mabb eventually surrendered and told police at Burnie Police Station that he “had to do this to get help and be locked up.”
He cried in court when the impact he had inflicted on the young girl was revealed.
The hearing continues.
