Lombardi confident 49ers don’t draft Justin Fields at No. 3

Former NFL executive Michael Lombardi, now a writer at The Athletic, recently joined SiriusXM’s The Wrap and seemed confident he knew at least what the San Francisco 49ers are not make with the No. 3 overall pick. The team traded up to the spot on March 26, dropping four draft picks, including their own first rounds in the next three draft, to move up nine spots from 12th place. The three candidates with the best betting odds to be San Francisco’s top pick are Justin Fields of Ohio State, Mac Jones of Alabama and Trey Lance of North Dakota State , in this order.

Lombardi is convinced it won’t be Fields, however.

“May I tell you the news that I have heard?” Justin Fields won’t be number 3, ”Lombardi told Patrick Meagher (h / t at Sasha D. Robinson). ” That’s what I heard. “

The author acknowledges that there are skeptics on Twitter who think he could be wrong. He even has a message for them.

“Where do you find your information? Asked a sly Lombardi. “Like, do you have better sources than me?” Good luck. Good luck. I’m just telling you, if it’s not Mac Jones, it’s Trey Lance. So take this [how] you want, Patrick. Please do what you want with it. “

Fields worked in front of the 49ers and other NFL teams last week, which saw him leap over Jones in the eyes of punters. Lance will set up a practice session ahead of the Niners on Monday, which could increase his chances of being the third overall pick.

Mac Jones vs. Justin Fields or Trey Lance. That’s the big debate when it comes to the San Francisco 49ers and the 2021 NFL Draft. While the latter two names are more likely to excite the fan base, there is a lot of speculation that the first could be the choice at n ° 3 of the general classification. A former 49ers defenseman, cornerback Richard Sherman, doesn’t assume it will be Jones, however. He actually sees Fields as the perfect fit for San Francisco, assuming Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson get caught with the first two caps. Cornerback Tre’Davious White, the most recent guest on the Cris Collinsworth podcast, which Sherman co-hosts, also believes the 49ers will select Fields. It’s not easy to understand that San Francisco gave up several first-round picks and a

Pro Football Focus has released its latest simulation project, courtesy of analyst Ben Linsey. The San Francisco 49ers are eagerly anticipated to select a quarterback after their recent trade to third place. They will have a choice of good options. With Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson near a lock to go # 1 and # 2, San Francisco can go with Justin Fields from Ohio State, Trey Lance from North Dakota State, or Mac Jones from Alabama. Linsey has San Francisco with the player who has been the popular choice among 49ers fans – Fields. “Fields’ game was placed under

No one questions the athleticism of Justin Fields. Some question the former Ohio State quarterback’s ability to move quickly from college to the pros. Mark Sanchez recently joined The Pat McAfee Show and explained why Fields’ ability to learn an NFL playbook might not take as long as some might expect. Maybe all of his skeptics, who want to find ways to bring down the quarterback, are wrong. “For Justin, this guy, Dr. Goldman, is a sports psychologist; I spoke to him yesterday, ”said Sanchez (h / t to Jordan Cohn of 95.7 The Game). ” He has

Much has been said about San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch’s absences from the Ohio State Professional Day last week. Instead of traveling to Columbus to watch quarterback Justin Fields, a draft candidate with the team’s third overall pick, the duo were in Tuscaloosa for Alabama Pro Day, watching Mac Jones. Why Jones Over Fields? ” [Just] speak with Fields’ agent [David Mulugheta] and everything, we’ll have another from him too, “Shanahan explained last week, through Kirk Larrabee.” So we can see it. This made the decision easy. “According to Fields’ agent, this next opportunity will present itself
