Line of Duty viewers have a lot to unpack after tonight’s intense episode.
One of the most notable moments – aside from the possible death of a character – was the unveiling of James Nesbitt as twisted copper Marcus Thurlwell.

That, of course, means he was talking about pork pies when he claimed he was snubbed from the cast.

The Northern Irish actor has previously told reporters: “Even though Line Of Duty had been gunned down here for years, I was never considered for it, which always irritated me slightly. “

But his sneaky bad direction came from the brain of Jed Mercurio himself.

Jed invented the lie to put off fans as James filmed BBC One’s Bloodlands near the Line of Duty set.

Now Jed said, “It was easier to keep it a secret by drawing the pattern between the two of us rather than involving a proper casting process.

“I warned him that there were two conditions: first, he should wear shorts that could get very nippy on a cold day in Belfast and, second, he should lie about it.

“The shoot in Belfast Marina went very well, as the sun was out for about five minutes.

“I think people thought Jimmy was shooting a commercial. I told passers-by that he was a model for a catalog.

“The rest of the shoot with Jimmy took place out of public view, so we were able to keep his involvement completely top secret. “

James, meanwhile, added to The Sun that he’s been a fan of Jed for years – and his work on Bloodlands gave him the perfect opportunity to land a spot in the Line of Duty cast.

He had to keep his role a secret for over a year – and even kept it hidden from friends and family.

Detective Thurlwell was mentioned briefly in Series Three, but it wasn’t until tonight that we got to put a face to a name.

” I love! James Nesbitt comes to us! An excited viewer tweeted.

Another just wrote: “Line of Duty James Nesbitt !!!! “
