A Tesco buyer was surprised after ordering a bag of apples only for Tesco to replace the fruit with an iPhone.
Nick James, 50, picked up his store as usual from his local Tesco Extra in Twickenham when staff told him there was a ‘surprise’ in his bag.

Mr. James was surprised to receive a free iPhone SE in his Click and Collect order.

He told the Mirror: “I half expected the surprise to be an Easter egg or something – I was a little shocked to say the least. “

Tesco is offering free Apple iPhones, AirPods and Samsung devices this week as part of a “super substitutes” promotion.

Tesco buyer said staff told him there was a ‘surprise’ in his order

In a tweet about his win earlier this week, he said: “Many thanks this week to Tesco and Tesco Mobile.

“Wednesday night we went to get our Click and Collect order and got a little surprise in there – an Apple iPhone SE.

“Apparently we ordered apples and randomly got an Apple iPhone! Made my son’s week!

The giveaway sees randomly selected buyers clicking and collecting to receive a high tech item in their shopping cart.

For example, a bag of apples could be replaced with an Apple iPhone, or shoppers could see their Tesco laundry tablets replaced with a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.

Tesco is distributing 80 items in total until April 18 in a handful of stores.

You should also note that there are certain items that you will need to purchase to have any chance of winning.

The participating stores are: Glasgow Silverburn Extra in Glasgow, Twickenham Extra in Greater London, Stretford Extra in Manchester, Swansea Cadle Extra in Swansea, Portsmouth Extra in Portsmouth and Dudley Extra in Birmingham.
