ATLANTA – Ben Askren’s boxing match with Jake Paul couldn’t have been worse than it did for former title holder Bellator and ONE Championship.
Askren was disappointed on Saturday night, to say the least, after his fight ended in shambles when he suffered a first-round TKO loss to the YouTube star in the headliner of the Triller Fight Club at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

It was a one-sided fight, as Paul landed a bomb with a punch that dropped Askren. He stood up but couldn’t respond intelligently to the referee, forcing him to wave.

Askren participated in a virtual media session after the competition and expressed his shame about the result.

“I didn’t let the MMA community down, I let the world down,” Askren told reporters after the fight. “F * cking people hate Jake Paul, and they wanted me to make him miserable.” “

Askren, 36, came out of retirement to fight Paul after undergoing hip replacement surgery. Askren, a former Olympic wrestler and two-time national collegiate champion, has never been known for his striking during his MMA career.

It showed on Saturday night against Paul, 24, who shifted his professional record to 3-0.
