Herne and Broomfield: Canterbury area where COVID cases jumped 350%

A district in Kent has recorded a 350% increase in coronavirus cases.
The latest statistics were posted on the government’s website and cover the seven days leading up to April 13.

Meanwhile, Herne and Broomfield in the Canterbury district have registered nine new cases – an increase of seven from the previous week.

The infection rate in the district is 93.1 new cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

As well as being the highest rate of any neighborhood in Kent, it is well above three times the national average of 27.9.

A number of other neighborhoods also recorded significant increases during this period.

Chestfield & South Tankerton, Herne Bay South & Greenhill and Ebbsfleet & Greenhithe all recorded weekly increases of 250 percent.

Their infection rates are 79.7, 53.8 and 78.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.

Seasalter and Kingswood, Langley Heath and Chart Sutton both recorded increases of 200 percent.

Their infection rates are 52.4 and 66.9, respectively.

A total of 37 neighborhoods in Kent recorded more than two cases of the coronavirus during this period.

The UK interactive map removes data from areas where fewer than three cases have been recorded in order to protect the identity of individuals.
