Helen McCrory, the British actress best known for her roles in Harry Potter and Its dark materials, and more, passed away after a long battle with cancer. Her husband, actor Damian Lewis, announced via social media to educate the public on Friday, April 16.

She joined the Harry Potter franchise in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, playing Narcissa, mother of Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and wife of Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs). His character reappeared once again in the two-part finale. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Other gender roles include her guest role as alien vampire Rosanna Calvierri in Docteur Who Season Five“The Vampires of Venice,” and as the voice of Lord Asriel’s demon Stelmaria in HBO and the adaptation of Its dark materials.

McCrory has a resume that spans decades on stage and on screen. McCrory has been nominated for several awards over the course of her broad career, including a Critics Choice Television Award and a Satellite Award for Best Actress in a Drama for Penny terrible.

Speaking of Penny terrible– her character Evelyn Poole remains one of my favorite villains. As season two’s witch, she is a powerful and ruthless antagonist with no mercy. Watching her take on Eva Green in the Season Two Showdown is a moment I’ll never forget:

McCrory was a talented actress whose grace and talent will be missed.
