In jockey news, Patrick Mullins stepped in for the ride on Burrows Saint’s second favorite, Paul Townend being unable to travel after sustaining a foot injury in a fall at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

Townend currently has ten victories ahead of Rachael Blackmore in the race for the title of champion jockey in Ireland and hopes to have concrete news early next week as to the length of his absence.

IHRB Chief Medical Officer Jennifer Pugh: “Paul is not going up to Aintree. He’s due to see a specialist on Monday, but until then we can’t say much more about it. “

The championship peaks over the five-day Punchestown Festival, with May 1 being the final countdown day.

Danny Mullins maintains his partnership with Acapella Bourgeois, while Brian Hayes will pilot the third of the Willie Mullins Class Conti riders.

Patrick Mullins won’t be the only member of the elite group of Irish amateur riders to line up, with news that Jamie Codd – second aboard Cause Of Causes at the 2017 National – will ride Milan Native for Gigginstown and Denise Foster, while Derek O’Connor will be aboard OK Corral for JP McManus and Nicky Henderson.

McManus will have seven riders at the National and the last part of the puzzle regarding his riding arrangements has been completed with the news that another former National finalist, Denis O’Regan, will be piloting Anibale Fly for Tony Martin.

Anibale Fly finished fourth under Barry Geraghty in 2018, then fifth when ridden by Mark Walsh in 2019.
