France, Germany back global corporate tax deal after US drops opposition to big tech taxation

Some countries like France have put in place temporary digital taxes to increase revenues for US tech giants until a global deal is struck;  the United States threatened them with tariffs in retaliation.

Any deal would have to go through the US Congress where tax laws affecting US businesses have often been watered down
