Dolly Parton shared a heartfelt tribute to her uncle Bill Owens, who was instrumental early in her career.

The country’s icon, 75, shared a photo of herself with her uncle, who died at the age of 85, telling her supporters: “I have lost my beloved uncle Bill Owens.

“I knew my heart would break when he passed, and it does. I’m going to start this eulogy by saying that I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for it.

Dolly revealed, “He was there… there in my youth to encourage me to keep playing guitar, to keep writing my songs, to keep practicing my singing.

“And he was there to help me build my confidence by standing on stage where he was always standing behind or near me with his big red Gretsch guitar.

“He was there to take me to all the local shows, he landed my first job on the ‘Cas Walker Show’. He’s taken me – and – to Nashville over the years, walked the streets with me, knocking on doors to sign me up for labels or publishing houses.

“It’s really hard to say or know for sure what you owe someone for your success. But I can tell you with certainty that I owe Uncle Billy a great deal.

Dolly also revealed that Bill had written “at least 800” songs over the years and helped her win her “first grand prize,” BMI Song of the Year in 1966, for Put It Off Until Tomorrow. they wrote together.

She added that Bill has also written songs for other stars of the country scene, including Loretta Lynn, Porter Wagoner, Ricky Skaggs and Kris Kristofferson, among others, as well as trips around Nashville to accompany stars on his guitar. .

Dolly described Bill as “funny, friendly and generous,” always available to offer advice or “a kind word” to people new to the music industry, as well as working at Dollywood since it opened.

She ended the beautiful eulogy by writing, “I bet a lot of our own parents don’t even know all the great things Uncle Bill has done behind the scenes in his life.

“But the greatest thing he ever did for me was help me see my dreams come true and for that I will be eternally grateful.

“I’m sure Uncle Bill’s friends, fans, wife Sandy, kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will join me when I tell you that we will love you forever. Rest in peace, Uncle Bill.
