Crystal Palace polled Eddie Howe on becoming his new manager after his Celtic U-turn, Football insider can reveal exclusively.

The former Bournemouth boss reached a verbal deal with Celtic following talks in London last night before having doubts.

A palace source said Football insider the club is evaluating potential alternatives to Roy Hodgson and has spoken to Howe.

He would be among their main goals if the 73-year-old Hodgson left when his contract expired at the end of the season.

This site revealed last week that Palace had already made contact with Burnley boss Sean Dyche and spoke to him in January.

Celtic are evaluating alternative options to Howe, fearing he will use their interest as leverage with Premier League sides.

The 43-year-old has accepted the Hoops’ ‘wonderful’ offer presented last week before his appearance on Wednesday night via Sky Sports, he has no plans to return to management until the summer at the earliest.

At this point, Celtic had already made contact with former Borussia Dortmund coach Lucien Favre.

Football insider had already revealed early Wednesday (April 7) that Favre was also on the Hoops shortlist and had been approached.

The Scottish champions are not convinced Howe is ready to face the pressure and scrutiny of running a club where every game is expected to be won.

Howe has left the door open, but his chances of succeeding Celtic this summer are dwindling.

Palace are set to lure a new manager with a big transfer jackpot this summer – a £ 50million war chest has been reported – and that could prove crucial.

In other news, Celtic are set to re-sign the 26-year-old after his price drops by £ 11million.
