British Columbia reported 997 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, as well as two additional deaths.

It raised the seven-day moving average for new cases to 985, with 8,728 currently active cases.

In a written statement, health officials said an additional 14,602 people were isolating themselves due to possible exposure – an increase of more than 50% in the past two weeks.

Of the new cases, 356 were in the Vancouver Coast Health Region, 465 in the Fraser Health Region, 67 in the Island Health Region, 91 in the Inland Health Region and 18 in the Northern Health Region.

There were 330 people in the hospital, including 105 in intensive care.

The province has not released an update on the number of confirmed COVID-19 variants of concern, saying it has not performed additional whole genome sequencing of samples since its last report.

The province has administered 34,040 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since its last report, bringing the number of people who have at least been vaccinated to 858,592, or nearly 17% of the population of British Columbia. Of these, 87,504 people also received a second dose.

People aged 70 and over or who have a letter designating them as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable are currently eligible to reserve their photo.

About 91% of British Columbia’s 106,985 total cases have recovered, while 1,491 people have died.
