Bridgerton star Regé-Jean Page has reportedly refused to return for the second season of the hit Netflix show after a “disagreement with the producers”.
The 31-year-old actor starred in the first season as Simon Basset, Duke of Hastings, and was very popular with viewers of the period drama.

However, last week it was confirmed that Page would not be returning for the second installment and fans were dumped.

And now it’s been claimed that Page isn’t coming back as Duke because he didn’t like what the producers had planned for his hunky character.

“Regé is not coming back to Bridgerton due to creative differences with [executive producer] Shonda Rhimes and her team, ”a Hollywood source told Page Six.

“He wasn’t happy with what was planned for his character for Season 2, which would have made him a player but not the focal point of the series. “

The source added that he “has been inundated with offers for other interesting and challenging lead roles.”

They continued, “If you look at all the big names that are gone [Rhimes’ hit show] Grey’s Anatomy in the past you see you don’t disagree with Shonda, no one is bigger than the show. ”

However, the insider added that Page is leaving on good terms despite the “creative differences.”

A post on Bridgerton’s Instagram page, in the style of Lady Whistledown’s gossip column, read: “Dear readers,

“As all eyes turn to Lord Anthony Bridgerton’s quest to find a Viscount, we bid farewell to Rege-Jean Page, who so triumphantly played the Duke of Hastings.

“Simon will be missed on screen, but he will always be part of the Bridgerton family.

“Daphne will remain a dedicated wife and sister, helping her brother navigate the coming social season and what it has to offer – more intrigue and romance than my readers can handle. “

The photo was captioned: “Your Grace, it has been a pleasure. “

Instead of Bridgerton, Page will star in the upcoming films The Gray Man and Dungeons & Dragons.

The Mirror reached out to a rep for the page to ask for a comment.
