Jonny Evans saw the nuances of Sir Alex Ferguson in the way Brendan Rodgers treated James Maddison and the rest of the Leicester Covidiots last weekend.
Maddison, Ayoze Perez and Hamza Choudhury were all forced to train away from the first team squad and gave up for the top four clashes with West Ham after breaking club protocols with injured teammate Harvey Barnes.

Rodgers spoke eloquently about the situation after the Hammers’ loss and left his entire team, and not just the people involved, with no doubts about the standards he and his club expect of them.

Evans, who spent 11 years at Old Trafford, including six in Ferguson’s first team, was asked if Rodgers’ clear leadership reminded him of his former boss.

He said, “You are there and the way he handled it was fantastic.

“He is very decisive and he let all the other players know where he was, he was very open with his dialogue, his communication.

“As players you can only have respect for that.

“The matter is being dealt with now and it has been dealt with in the right way.

“We had a few days off after the last game and Friday was the second day everyone got together.

“It was great to have all the boys back in training and it allowed the team to come back.

“We also missed Caglar Soyuncu with Covid, he had to stay in Turkey, the big players, so just for everyone to be available for this game, there are obviously still some injuries, but the people who may be available are there and we’re all so excited to have them back.

“It’s already been forgotten, it’s only been a few days, but things are moving fast in football and it’s the next game.”
