Retrospective Bobby Brown at its end Commercial heyday of the ’80s – the Gumby’ do, the energy coming out of his pores, the roaring bravado – it’s hard to understand the turns his life took to make him such a tragic character. But mourning defined the most recent chapter in Brown’s public life: his ex-wife Whitney Houston died in 2012; his daughter Bobby-Kristina Brown in 2015; and more recently, in 2020, his son Bobby Brown Jr. died after overdose on fentanyl, cocaine and alcohol.

And so, the womann de Discussion on the red table had a lot to work on when Brown joined their affirmation chorus for an episode that premiered on Wednesday. Brown told Jada Pinkett Smith, her daughter Willow and her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Norris, that her son’s death “hit me really hard” and “I admired him as a young man.” He sought to clarify any misconceptions the public might have after the Bobby Brown Jr. overdose.

“Let me clarify, he was not a user,” Brown said. “He would experience different things. It wasn’t like he was addicted to drugs like when I was in my situation. I depended. I needed it. He was a young man who tried the wrong thing, and it got him out of here. Brown partially blamed himself: “I have walked through my time and I know my time played a role in feeling that my son could test something… And I feel guilty about it.

The dealers labeled Brown who associate their product with the very potent fentanyl as “murderers who create these synthetic drugs that kill these kids.” He said an investigation was underway to find the source of the drugs that killed Brown’s son.

Brown also said he believed Bobbi Kristina’s ex-boyfriend Nick Gordon was responsible for not only his daughter’s death, but his ex-wife’s death. “He was the only one there with both situations, with my ex-wife [Whitney Houston] and with my daughter, and they both died the same, ”Brown said. “That’s my take on who I think this young man was. To be with my daughter and to be with my ex-wife I think [Nick] was more of a supplier of, you know, party favors. Brown told the Table he had never faced Gordon before. However, in 2016, a judge ordered Gordon to pay Bobbi Kristina’s estate $ 36 million in a wrongful death lawsuit. Bobby Brown was one of the witnesses.

“It’s pushed down,” Brown said of his feelings about his daughter’s death. “I keep this away from me as much as possible because I couldn’t do anything then and I can’t do anything now.

Brown founded the Bobbi Kristina Serenity House, a safe haven for domestic violence, in 2015, the year her daughter died. After mentioning it, Pinkett Smith referred to the violence that allegedly took place in Brown’s relationship with Houston. It was accused with battery in 2003 and admitted at hit Houston once in a 2016 interview with Robin Roberts. (In 2009, Houston told Oprah Winfrey that Brown spat on him during a confrontation.)

At the Red Table, Brown said, “The violence we suffered was consumption, you know? It is violence in itself. He continued, “You know, this is abuse. We abused drugs and alcohol. We fought verbally and loved it even more. He then pointed out the verbal nature of their uproar: “verbally it gets really, really messy.”

Brown says he’s been off drugs for 19 years and “was off alcohol for a year.” He said spending time in jail as he did in 2004, was its stone bottom.
