Ben Shephard appeared to be trying to hold back tears as he spoke about Kate Garraway and her husband on Good Morning Britain on Friday.
Ben and his co-host Ranvir Singh were keen to discuss the wonderful news that Derek Draper returned home with Kate and their two children more than a year after his hospitalization.

As they joined the ITV breakfast show at 6:30 am, Ben said, “We’re all smiling this morning, aren’t we? To which Ranvir replied, “It made everyone smile.” “

Ben continued, “The news that he was able to return home and now lives at his home with Kate, Darcey and Bill.

“Honestly, it means a lot to us because we’ve shared this with Kate personally, but when we come in and see the posts from you guys and how happy you are.

“This is the first leg of a very, very long journey for Derek and Kate and for the family trying to figure out how it’s going to play out. There is 24 hour care at home, ”added Ben.

“It’s a thing of progress isn’t it,” said Ranvir. “Now the doctors say he’s responding regularly, which is amazing, but it’s going to take a lot of help for Kate and her family.”

Showbiz correspondent Richard Arnold added, “It’s a gift from God. Having been with her throughout this trip, it has been absolutely heartbreaking. It’s not so much boundless joy, but it’s a relief, a palpable relief for all of us. “

Ranvir then commented that Kate probably didn’t get much sleep last night, to which Ben replied, “I don’t think she slept at all.

“There’s a lot of home adaptation to do and a lot of adaptation to the way the family lives, of course. “
