Aston Villa’s hopes of mounting a late push for Europe were dashed this weekend – but they are not yet out of the race.
Villa led defending Premier League champions Liverpool to Anfield via Ollie Watkins, but the Reds ultimately triumphed 2-1.

Mohamed Salah equalized for Jurgen Klopp’s men before Trent Alexander-Arnold pulled a dying winner.

Elsewhere, Leeds United picked up a shock 2-1 victory over runaway leaders Manchester City, while Arsenal beat Sheffield United.

These results pushed Villa to the bottom half of the table. Dean Smith’s side are 11th, one point behind Leeds and Arsenal, with a game in hand.

Everton were three points above them heading into their game against Brighton on Monday night.

Tottenham and Liverpool remain close at hand, although the games are running out.

Villa have eight games to play – against Man City, West Bromwich Albion, Everton (twice), Manchester United, Crystal Palace, Spurs and Chelsea.
