Arsenal fans noticed the impressive role Thomas Partey played on Sunday as the Gunners collected three much-needed points.
Mikel Arteta’s men beat wrestlers Sheffield United 3-0 thanks to a brace from Alexandre Lacazette and a goal from youngster Gabriel Martinelli.

But while the scoring duo received a lot of praise, midfielder Partey also impressed, anchoring the Gunners midfielder with Dani Ceballos who gave him much more license to continue.

Arsenal fans have yet to see the best of Partey after arriving for £ 45million from Atletico Madrid this summer, with the Ghanaian struggling with injury for the most part.

He has managed to make 26 appearances in all competitions but amid Arsenal’s struggles it hasn’t been a comfortable start to life in north London for Partey.

However, the Gunners may now know how to make the most of their big summer signing after seeing the role he played against Sheffield United.

A Reddit fan highlighted a position map from the victory over the Blades that showed how Partey operated as a single fulcrum, often being the only one to stay deep as others bombed.

It remains to be seen whether this will work against better teams which cause more problems for Arsenal defensively, but Arsenal fans love what they saw of ‘octopus’ Partey this weekend.

Here’s the location map and what some fans had to say about it on Reddit.

PrathGooner – “Interesting form yesterday. Partey is a man in the midfield. No wonder they call it “The Octopus”. “

YrGod – «Octopartey».

Daduang- «Octhomas Prime».

Ganzelo – “Hmm .. seems to be working against low block teams like West Ham when they were 3-0 and Sheffield [United]. And low block teams are one of our weaknesses. One way to move forward, I guess? “

iDervyi – “Man City-esque. This is how they work with Rodri & Fernandinho. “

Varro_reatinus – “Thomas is better as a single pivot, and the further away he is from Xhaka, the better he plays.” “
