Air France launches flights to Denver

Air France launches flights to Denver

While we’ve seen airlines launch all kinds of short-haul recreational routes during the pandemic, we haven’t seen many new transatlantic routes. Well, here’s a notable exception.

Air France launches Paris-Denver flights

Air France will be launching a new flight between Paris and Denver, which is now scheduled to operate between July 2 and October 29, 2021. For now, it appears to be a seasonal flight, although I imagine it will be a seasonal flight. ‘it has the potential to be extended, since Colorado is also popular in the winter.

The new flight will operate 3 times a week, on Sundays, Wednesdays and Fridays, according to the following schedule:

AF630 Paris to Denver departure 1:10 pm arrival 3:20 pm
AF631 Denver to Paris departing 5:30 p.m. and arriving 10:50 a.m. (+1 day)

The approximately 4,885 mile flight was stuck at 10:10 am westbound and 9:20 am eastbound.

Air France will use a Boeing 787-9 for the route, with 276 seats, including 30 seats in business class, 21 seats in premium economy class and 225 seats in economy class.

What an interesting route!

I must say that this is a fascinating addition to Air France’s network of routes. It’s one thing that this route was added in 2019, but seeing it added in 2021 makes it even more of a surprise.

Here are some initial thoughts and observations about it:

  • Denver is a Star Alliance hub, and Lufthansa and United currently dominate the transatlantic market there, given the connectivity they have on both sides.
  • British Airways has also historically operated a flight to Denver and has done very well, but it is currently suspended.
  • This will be SkyTeam’s first transatlantic flight to Denver, as well as Air France’s first service to the airport.
  • As of now, there are still reciprocal travel bans in place, as the United States bans people from France, and France bans people from the United States; it is noted that the start of this service is “subject to changes in the travel bans currently in force”
  • I find the seasonality of the route interesting, as this route could arguably be just as popular in winter (for people who wish to ski) as it is in summer (where there are other types of outdoor activities. )
  • Norwegian operated a Paris-Denver route a few years ago, but the airline ceased long-haul operations

It will be worth watching – I’m curious if the flight starts and, if so, if it continues next summer, or if it may even be extended in service all through. year.

At the end of the line

Air France will launch a new summer seasonal link between Paris and Denver in 2021. With this development, the three global alliances will offer transatlantic flights to Denver. The Star Alliance continues to dominate transatlantic service to Denver, while British Airways takes over oneworld with its typical London flight.

I could have totally seen this route launch in 2019, although seeing it launched this year is particularly surprising, in my opinion, given current travel restrictions.

What do you think of Air France’s Denver flight? Do you think it will be launched, and if so, do you think it will be extended in service all year round and / or return next summer?
