HOUSTON (AP) – Six other women filed lawsuits on Monday accusing Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson of sexual assault and harassment, bringing the total number of such lawsuits against the NFL player to 13.
Claims in the six new lawsuits, which were filed in a Harris County state district court, are similar to those in earlier cases. One of the latest lawsuits was brought by a woman who alleges Watson assaulted her on March 5 in Atlanta and that her behavior “is part of a disturbing pattern of preying on vulnerable women.”
All of the women who sued Watson are licensed massage therapists or have worked in a spa or similar business and have claimed that Watson exposed himself, touched them with his penis, or kissed them against their will. A woman alleged that Watson forced her to have oral sex. All but one of the alleged assaults took place in Houston, with one woman flying in from Atlanta, according to the lawsuits. The first alleged assault took place in March 2020.
Watson’s attorney Rusty Hardin declined to comment on the latest lawsuits against his client on Monday. In a statement Friday, Hardin called the allegations “baseless.”
Watson, 25, has largely denied acting inappropriately and said in a statement last week that he was eagerly awaiting a clearing of his name.
The 13 women, who sued separately, were not identified by name in the lawsuits and are represented by Houston attorney Tony Buzbee. The women each seek compensatory and punitive damages, as well as legal costs.
Buzbee said he plans to submit affidavits and evidence from several of the women to authorities in Houston. Buzbee did not immediately return a call seeking comment on Monday.
“It would be inappropriate for a district attorney’s office to comment in any way on a civil lawsuit and we refrain from publicly discussing the allegations in any case until a criminal charge is filed. . We are doing this out of fairness to all, ”said Dane Schiller, a spokesperson for the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
The NFL said it was investigate the allegations against Watson.
Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the league and led the NFL in passing yards last season. He signed a four-year, $ 156 million contract extension with the Texans last offseason, but became unhappy with the team’s direction as Houston fell to 4-12 and asked for a exchange in january.
