LAS VEGAS – They were supposed to be separated by plexiglass under COVID-19 protocols, but Jake Paul had none of that when he faced Ben Asrken at the Triller press conference.
Paul stood in front of Askren and talked about the trash, which he had been doing almost continuously since stepping on the closed set of Sin City. When he turned to face the cameras, however, Askren continued to stare at him, then faced him and walked away.
Paul could have decorated the UFC veteran right there, but settled for a push with his opponent’s back.
It was the somewhat lukewarm end of a press conference filled with bravado and insults as the April 17 headliners promoted the event at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta. Askren barely took the bait offered by the amplified Paul and slid into the liners as his young opponent scored Jorge Masvidal for a few more hits.
YouTube star Paul is in the third professional boxing match of his career against Askren, a career wrestler and MMA fighter who is making his square circle debut. The fight headlines the April 17 event five months after Triller’s online blockbuster starring Mike Tyson vs. Roy Jones Jr.
