Heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic sought to silence the skeptics again tonight (Saturday, March 27, 2021), challenging the game’s most dangerous 265-pound knockout artist today, Francis Ngannou, in the pay-per-view (PPV) main event of UFC 260, which took place inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. With a win, Miocic would add to his record for most title defenses in the division (currently at four).
Miocic defeated Ngannou by unanimous decision at UFC 220 in January 2018.
Live updates will start to flow below the moment both fighters head to the Octagon …
Ngannou, the challenger, was the first to make his way to the cage:
And it was Miocic’s turn …
The two fighters shook hands before the fight, showing their mutual respect. They met in the center of the cage and it was rolling, with Ngannou scoring with a nice low kick to start the action. He followed it up with a body shot, then another low kick as Miocic patiently turned. Ngannou landed neat with a huge shot, but Miocic didn’t seem to mind. Miocic dove for a single leg, but Ngannou stretched out and then scuffled, puncturing Miocic with hard punches from behind as he tried to get to his feet. Miocic eventually turned away from danger, but then ate a big kick in the head. No idea how he’s still standing. Miocic missed with a low kick and seemed to be with him always… one way or another. Ngannou continued to hunt down Miocic, who was spinning side to side to avoid eating more of those powerful punches. Ngannou finished on a low kick after a dominant first round.
In progress …
