Trump was asked in a Fox News interview with Maria Bartiromo about his thoughts on a potential leadership candidacy by Prince Harry’s American wife, following their successful interview with Oprah Winfrey.
“Well, I hope that will happen because if it did, then I think I would have an even stronger feeling of running,” Trump said.
“I’m not a fan of his. I think what she’s talking about the Royal Family and the Queen – I think I know the Queen, as you know. I have met the Queen and I think the Queen is a great person. And I’m not a Meghan fan.
Markle, 39, is said to be networking with Democrats and considering her own potential path to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave following an interview with Oprah on CBS in which she said the royals were not supportive and racist.
Trump said in the TV interview that he would make up his mind on a presidential election after the 2022 midterm elections. “Frankly, we’ll make our decision after that,” he said.
Markle opposed Trump’s presidential campaign in 2016 and appeared to endorse Biden in a campaign video with her husband.
In response, Trump said during a coronavirus briefing at the White House: “I wish Harry the best of luck because he will need it.”
Trump had previously sided with Queen Elizabeth II during the so-called #Megxit family split.
Last year Trump tweeted: “I am a great friend and admirer of the Queen and of the United Kingdom. Harry and Meghan, who have left the Kingdom, have been reported to be permanently resident in Canada. Now that they have left Canada for the United States, the United States will not pay for their security protection. They have to pay!
