The Alabama Crimson Tide fights the Maryland Terrapins on Monday in the NCAA College Basketball Tournament from Lucas Oil Stadium.

Coming into this second round game of the NCAA tournament, Maryland sits at 17-13 overall. The Terrapins are 2-1 in their last three games and earned a tournament victory on Saturday against UConn. As for The Tide, they are 25-6 this season. Alabama have a strong seven-game winning streak and knocked out Iona in the opening round on Saturday. Maryland has had a few tough times this year, particularly a 2-5 streak in December / January and a 2-5 run a few weeks later. The Terrapins were fired from the conference tournament by Michigan, but picked up a first-round victory over UConn on Saturday.

In the first round game against UConn, the Terrapins had a 33-22 lead at the break and were able to hang on for a 63-54 victory. Eric Ayala led the way by scoring with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists. Aaron Wiggins also added 14 points.

On the Alabama side, they’ve been very consistent this year and haven’t lost back-to-back games. In their last seven outings, the Tide has dealt with Mississippi State (twice), Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee, LSU and then Iona in Saturday’s tournament game.

In the first round game against Iona on Saturday, Alabama struggled initially with a 33-32 advantage at the half, but managed to keep the Gaels just 23 points from there in a 68 win. -55. Tide’s top scorer was Herb Jones with 20 points, six rebounds and two assists.

Alabama is 9-4 CEP in its last 13 games as an underdog and 2-5 CEP in its last seven games on Monday. The Under are 6-2 in the last eight games at Tide and 4-1 in their last five games on neutral site.

Meanwhile, the Terrapins are 1-4 CEPs in their last five Monday games and 3-7 CEPs in their last 10 NCAA Tournament games. The Under are 6-1 in Maryland’s last seven games and 5-1 in their last six NCAA tournament games.

TAKE: I’ll probably stick with Alabama. Admittedly, it took a while for the tide to pull itself together in a 33-32 halftime result in the first round game, but in the end they took care of the business against a scrappy Iona side. Alabama has scored fairly well recently, with 70 or more points in five of their last six. If they can get a good start here, I think the Tide will be in good shape against Maryland. The Terrapins aren’t left out though, so it should be a fun game to watch.
