On Friday March 26, Joe Exotic’s husband Dillon Passage confirmed in a series of Instagram posts that he is filing for divorce from the Netflix star.
“The presidential pardon we all expected never came and our hopes were dashed. I stay in favor of Joe and I want to be there for him, ”he said in a post.
“It was not an easy decision to make, but Joe and I both understand that this situation is not right for either of us,” he added in a follow-up article.
Mr Exotic’s lawyer Francisco Hernandez said TMZ that he is distraught after talking to him in prison.The tiger dealer was reportedly so confident he would receive a presidential pardon in the closing days of the Trump administration that his team said a limo was parked near the jail to escort him home.
Mr Exotic is serving a 22-year sentence in Fort Worth, Texas after being convicted in 2019 of attempting to hire a hitman to kill rival zookeeper Carole Baskin, along with numerous charges of animal abuse.
On his last day as president, Jan. 20, Mr. Trump pardoned 143 people, including rappers Lil Wayne and Kodack Black. But Exotic joined Julian Assange as notable absences from the clemency round.
Fans of the eccentric personality expected a pardon after Mr. Trump appeared amused by the suggestion during a press conference in April last year.
When asked if he would consider pardon, the then president said he had no idea but would “take a look.”
Mr. Passage said her husband was “obviously having a difficult time in prison,” and no one could blame him. But at 25, he needed to think about his future.
“I’m sure he wants me to lead a full life like you all do for the people you love,” he said in a post.
“It’s something neither of us expected, but we’re going to take it day in and day out. We are still on good terms and I hope it can stay that way, ”he added in another article.
