SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket debris spotted burning in night sky - Chilliwack Progress

People across the west coast – in Canada and across the border – were surprised by a unique sight in the sky last night of what appears to have been a bursting SpaceX rocket. .

Thousands of people took to social media to share what they saw on Thursday night.

According to Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, the second stage of Falcon 9 from Starlink’s March 4 launch failed to deorbitate while entering Earth’s atmosphere.

McDowell said it was the 14th piece of “space junk” with a mass of over a ton that has reintegrated since January.

It is not known if SpaceX founder Elon Musk drew the light show.

More soon.
