The Education Secretary suggested that snowy days would be a thing of the past thanks to the coronavirus crisis.

Gavin Williamson said the disruption caused by the pandemic has led to the creation of new teaching methods that will allow students to receive education from their homes if they cannot access school.

He said to me: “What we have learned in terms of distance education, I don’t think there will be more snow days in the future”.

‘Snow days’ have been a part of the winter calendar for many years across the UK, with pupils being given a day off when it is not possible for them and staff to make it to school in. due to bad weather.

This often gave kids the chance to get out and play in the snow with their friends, but Mr Williamson says online lessons during the pandemic left no excuse for more in the future.

The Education Secretary believes that despite major disruptions to schooling in the year since the lockdown began, there are some bright spots to be learned from the crisis.

He suggests bullying and exclusions have been reduced by facing students to reduce transmission of Covid-19, and says behavior and discipline have “really improved” over the past 12 months.

Mr Williamson has been widely criticized for his management of the education sector throughout the pandemic, including the chaos of exams last year and the botched return of schools in January.

He admitted he was a “pot” character, ahead of rumors of a possible summer ministerial reshuffle.

He also seemed to take a hit at Boris Johnson’s Oxford University college saying, “I appreciate more people going to Balliol than Bradford in this government but in fact I loved my time in college, I got so much out of it.
