Rugby-Scotland's Fagerson out of France faces ankle injury

REUTERS: Scotland’s number eight Matt Fagerson is out of Friday’s Six Nations meeting with France with an ankle injury and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Nick Haining, Scottish said on Thursday Rugby.

Scotland said Fagerson was injured in training on Wednesday and remained in the country to have him evaluated before returning to the Glasgow Warriors club.

Ryan Wilson was called up to join the substitutes and traveled to France for the 2021 Six Nations final match.

The hosts must beat Scotland by 21 points and earn a bonus point to take Wales to the title.

“Matt suffered an ankle injury in our last training session this week before heading to Paris,” Scotland head coach Gregor Townsend said in a statement https://www.scottishrugby .org / news / scotland-squad-update-france-2021. “It’s disappointing for Matt, who has always played well throughout the championship.

“We were able to call Ryan on short notice given that Glasgow Warriors had already completed two COVID-19 tests this week, which meant he could travel safely and join the team.

“Given Ryan’s tryout experience and his form this season, we believe he will take this opportunity when he returns to the squad. And if he leaves the bench tomorrow, he will reach his 50th selection, which is an important step. ”
