Miley Cyrus still has love for Hannah Montana.
The former Disney Channel star released a handwritten note to his iconic character on Wednesday, marking the 15th anniversary of the show’s premiere., looking back at the memories and friendships she acquired while filming the series that made her a household name.
“Hi Hannah – It’s been a while,” Cyrus’s letter begins. “Fifteen years to be exact. Since the first time around, I’ve slid this blonde bangs across my forehead in the best attempt to hide my identity. Then put on a puffed up pink terrycloth bathrobe with a dazzled “HM” on the heart. I didn’t know then… this is where you would live forever. Not just in my home, but in millions of people around the world. Although you are considered an “alter ego”, in reality there was a time in my life when you held more of my identity in your glove than I did in my bare hands.
Cyrus remembers the pain of losing his grandfather while filming Season 1, and the pride he said he felt seeing the show’s first commercial air at the premiere of High school music in 2006. She also looks back on the friendships she made with co-stars Emily Osment, Mitchell Musso and Jason Earles.
“I had the experience of falling in love for the first time in these years,” she adds. “I embarrassedly started my period in a pair of curse white capris the day a ‘cute guy’ was picked and asked to have lunch with me. Instead, I spent it in the bathroom with my sobbing mother scrambling to find a pair of fresh denim.
“You have all my love and [utmost] gratitude, ”she concludes. “Bringing you life during those six years was an honor. I am indebted not only to you Hannah, but to everyone who believed in me from the start. You all have my loyalty and my deepest appreciation until the end. … I love you Hannah Montana. Forever, Miley.
It’s certainly a far cry from the social media post Cyrus shared for the show’s 10th anniversary five years ago, when she claimed Hannah was “cut” and “buried” in her. garden. (This Instagram post has since been deleted.)
