Piers Morgan has confirmed that the reason he left Good Morning Britain is because he refused to apologize for his comments on Meghan Markle.
In his latest diary column, Piers revealed his side of the story that saw him sensational quitting the ITV breakfast show in early March.

Recalling the events that led him to quit GMB, Piers admitted that he had had “a bad night’s sleep repaired” after hosting the show on Monday, March 8.

By the time he came to host the Tuesday show, Piers said he was “tired and restless” – and ended up storming the set when his colleague Alex Beresford “launched into an attack. very personal ”on Piers.

On Tuesday afternoon, Piers said he realized the situation had gotten much worse.

He wrote, “Oh shit. It must be more serious than I thought. In the middle of the afternoon, ITV TV director Kevin Lygo, who I had spoken to on several occasions since yesterday, rang the bell to say that we were now on the edge of the cliff “and either I was excused or I should quit GMB.

“And even if I apologized, that wouldn’t be the end. The awakened brigade would continue to come looking for me, demanding that I apologize for anything they find offensive – which, of course, is absolutely everything. ”

Piers continued, “I called Kevin back, said I wouldn’t apologize, and we agreed that I would be leaving GMB with immediate effect.

He said it was a “strange feeling” to come home and wait for the news to arrive.

Speaking in the hours after his announcement, Piers wrote in his Mail On Sunday column: “My phone went off like a firecracker. It’s always very interesting to see who contacts you at such times, or who supports you publicly, and even more interesting to note who does not. ”

Piers added that on March 10, he “woke up at 4 am with over 1,000 emails, texts and WhatsApp messages from around the world.”

He also admitted that he was rather shocked by Susanna Reid’s statement, which she read on the Wednesday morning show.

“I had an instant flurry of new texts from puzzled friends asking if we had fallen out. We didn’t do it, ”he wrote.

“But I suspect Susanna is feeling angry and sad that I am leaving just as the show is reaching new audience levels, concerned about her own future, fearing troll abuse for publicly supporting me.” (she’s had a disgusting charge over the years to sit next to me) and general bewilderment at the dramatic turn of events.

Susanna has continued to host the show since Piers left, and has done so alongside Ben Shephard and Ranvir Singh.
