Mikel Arteta admits Martin Odegaard is Arsenal team manager by suggesting permanent deal

Mikel Arteta hailed Martin Odegaard as his team’s leader after the attacking midfielder helped revive Arsenal’s recovery at West Ham.
The Gunners came back from 3-0 to draw 3-3 at London Stadium in a Premier League thriller on Sunday afternoon.

Odegaard has been a constant spark for the visitors and continues to make a strong impression on loan from Real Madrid.

The Norwegian has been a hit with his teammates and Arteta is reportedly keen to keep him going beyond his loan expiration at the end of the season.

Odegaard didn’t move to the Emirates until January, but his manager insists he’s a player others are looking to.

Gunners boss praised ‘really influential’ loan star

When asked if the 22-year-old is a leader in his squad, Arteta told reporters: “Well he shows that, I think, from week one.

“The way he walks on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he controls the pressing. He was very influential.

“I think we were all a little surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he comes on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football. ”

The Spaniard added: “I think he was very smart in the way he read the game, the way he affected the game and once again he showed how much he wanted to win.

“When everyone was shaking a bit he gave us that stability and that composure on the ball and he created luck after luck. ”
