Martin and Roman Kemp both broke down in tears during an “emotional” episode of DNA Journey on Wednesday.
The Spandau Ballet star, 59, found out that her nan Eliza Crisp was sent to a workshop when she was just 10 years old after her own mother was placed in an asylum.
Viewers also admitted they felt “emotional” during the show, many praising the “cute” father-son duo’s “special bond”.

After learning of Eliza’s plight, the Kemps visited the labor house where their ancestor lived for five years and learned that her difficult conditions were “notorious.”
Eliza left the studio in 1911 after training as a maid and married Walter, Martin’s grandfather. They had five children, including the star’s father, Frank.
However, at the end of the show, Martin discovered that Eliza had had a poor man’s funeral in 1950 and was buried in an unnamed grave at St Pancras Church.
He said he would like to organize a tombstone for his grandmother, taking to Twitter after the show aired to reveal that plans for the tribute were underway.

Speaking through tears to congratulate his strong family, Martin said, “It makes so much sense with how my mom and dad were.
“My dad was the cutest man, sometimes he just catches up. It was just nice to know her mom was too. Now I can see where it came from. I miss my dad so much.
Elsewhere in the episode, the Kemps went to where Martin grew up in Islington, north London, with Martin revealing that there was no bath or sink.
He explained that there had never been “money, but he [the house] was filled with love ”.

Difficult Scenes: Roman also became tearful as he reflected on how lucky he was to have “everything he ever wanted” growing up.
Reflecting on what they learned on the show, Roman admitted that it hits him hard to see how much past generations have struggled.
He said: “I got everything I ever wanted. It’s hard because even today I hear about my father and the house he is from and the house I come from
“It’s just going back… you hope the people who put this in place for me and my family, you hope they know that.”

Update: The Spandau Ballet star told fans she was laying a headstone on her chick’s grave in a tweet shared after the episode aired on Wednesday.

The Martin and Roman ancestry show comes after the Capital FM DJ said he wanted to see his father follow in his footsteps and take on the jungle. I’m a Celebrity… Get me out of here on his 60th birthday.
Speaking on This Morning on Tuesday, Roman revealed, “I always campaign to be a celebrity to have a good time with my dad! ”
Roman burst out laughing after telling hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield about his plan.
And Martin didn’t look very excited about the proposal as he closed his eyes and shook his head in dismay at the idea of his son.
Roman came in third behind Jacqueline Jossa and Andy Whyment when he entered the jungle in 2019.
