Manchester United power brokers held talks with Edinson Cavani on Tuesday to convince him to stay.
New director of football John Murtough and executive vice president Ed Woodward met with the Uruguay international at noon to discuss the possibility of extending his contract at United for another season.
Cavani’s future was cast in doubt earlier this month due to interest from Argentina club Boca Juniors and the player’s father Luis revealing his son was uncomfortable in England .

It was also reported that Cavani was unhappy with his treatment at the hands of the English FA, which banned him for three games in January and fined him £ 100,000 for using the word ‘negrito’ in a post on social networks.
It was only last weekend that Uruguay’s assistant coach Mario Rebollo added to the clamor of Cavani’s departure when he said he needed to move to a place where he could find a better “pace and competition”.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted he wants Cavani to stay, but has confirmed that the final decision rests with the 34-year-old. The United manager is now hoping Tuesday’s talks at their Carrington training base will prove productive.
Cavani is aware that United’s priority is to sign another striker this summer and he is concerned about the playing time he will receive.

However, United will need some quality cover as Marcus Rashford could face some downtime at the start of the new season if he ever needed surgery on his troublesome shoulder.
Cavani, who joined as a free agent last October, has also struggled to get in shape at times this season, despite still having managed seven goals in 26 appearances.
He was in high spirits during training at Carrington on Tuesday after his side, consisting of Nemanja Matic, Alex Telles, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Hannibal Mejbri, claimed victory in all five of the day’s parallel competitions.
Cavani is in line to appear against Brighton on Sunday with United awaiting Rashford’s fitness and that of Anthony Martial who received a blow to the fibula below his left knee while playing for France against Kazakhstan.
