Jesse Lingard may not leave Manchester United after all this summer with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer very impressed with the midfielder and ready to bring him back into the fold of the first team.

The 28-year-old found playing time difficult to find at Old Trafford and was forced to leave the club on loan in January, joining West Ham until the end of the season.

Despite his lack of minutes in recent seasons, Lingard has hit the ground with five goals and two assists in his first seven Premier League appearances for the Irons.

His form was so impressive that he was even called up to the England national team and was named Man of the Match for his performance against San Marino on Thursday.

Lingard was expected to make a permanent move to east London for around £ 15million, but now The Sun reports United have rethought.

Solskjaer has been so blown away by Lingard’s return to form that he’s ready to bring him back from the cold and feels he could be a valuable part of the squad.

Despite Lingard’s frost, the Norwegian coach has always been a big fan of the midfielder and is looking forward to seeing him full of confidence again.

United are even considering offering Lingard a new contract, with his current £ 100,000-a-week contract expiring in 2022, when he could leave the club with a free transfer.

A new contract would see Solskjaer bring Lingard back into his first-team plans and preserve his transfer value, while even allowing them to loan him out again later if he finds himself on the outskirts of Old Trafford again. .

West Ham were desperate to keep Lingard and hoped to land him permanently for around £ 15million, although United now expect an offer in excess of £ 20million if they let him go.

Lingard has added value for United as a local player, while the potential departure of Juan Mata – the Spaniard has only a few months left on his contract – would leave United with room for a creative player.
