Inter Miami CF made another addition to their fullback, announcing on Tuesday that the club had signed England fullback Kieran Gibbs.
Gibbs will be eligible to play for the club from July 1, when his contract with his current club expires, English Premier League club West Brom.
The announcement comes on the heels of the club signing another outside full-back earlier today from former Seattle Sounders veteran Kelvin Leerdam as Inter Miami continue their off-season maneuvers ahead of the debut of his second MLS season.
Gibbs is primarily a left-back, while Leerdam has played almost exclusively right-back during his time with the Sounders, giving first-year head coach Phil Neville two genealogy options on both sides of the backline.
“Kieran is an exciting player. His technique, his experience and his pace of work will be invaluable on the left flank, ”Inter Miami sporting director Chris Henderson said in Tuesday’s statement. “He has had an exceptional career at the highest levels so far, and we believe he can continue to bring that same level of quality to Inter Miami and MLS this summer.”
Gibbs, 31, has spent his entire professional career at this stage in England, starting with Arsenal, where he made 137 appearances from 2007 to 2017 and made a seven-game stint on loan with Norwich City in 2008. He has then moved to West Brom. , where he made 93 appearances, scoring five goals. He also won 10 senior caps for England between 2010-2015.
