Ice Chips: Tyler Toffoli is skating, still in a few days

Montreal Canadiens

Wounded forward Tyler Toffoli skated for the first time since sustaining a lower body injury on March 19.

Habs head coach Dominique Ducharme told reporters he should be back in the coming days. Ducharme said Monday night that Toffoli was doing better but would not play Tuesday night as Montreal returned to battle against the Edmonton Oilers.

In the meantime, forward Michael Frolik will debut in Montreal on Tuesday night.

Frolik skated on the fourth row of the Habs on Tuesday morning. He was signed as a free agent on December 23 and played in two games with the AHL Laval Rocket.

Defender injured Ryan McDonagh was skating with the team on Tuesday morning after missing the last three games with a lower body injury.

Head coach Jon Cooper then told reporters he was still a game or two away.

Old Toronto Maple Leaf Mikko Lehtonen will make his Blue Jackets debut Tuesday night as they face the Tampa Bay Lightning, tweets Athletic’s Aaron Portzline.

Lehtonen was acquired earlier this month in a trade for the goalkeeper Vin Vehvilainen.
