The total number of deaths associated with COVID-19 is now 45, although the number of cases continues to decline, with 25 reported on Wednesday and active cases at 286.
THUNDER BAY – Five more people in the Thunder Bay District have died from COVID-19, bringing the total number of deaths to 45 since the start of the pandemic.
This is the highest number of deaths recorded in a day since December when on two occasions three deaths were reported in a single day.
The health unit is also reporting 25 new cases, six of which are considered the result of family contact, six as other close contacts, 10 with no known exposure and three outstanding.
Of the new cases, 21 are from Thunder Bay and surrounding areas and four from district communities.
The health unit reports 39 more cases as resolved, bringing the number of active cases to 286 and this is the first time the number of active cases has fallen to less than 300 since February 23.
There are currently 30 patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Center, seven of whom are in the intensive care unit.
The total number of COVID-19 cases in the district since the start of the pandemic now stands at 2,686.
