Johnny Depp fans are known to have started abusive tendencies when it comes to his legal battle with ex-wife Amber Heard.
Amber opted to turn off her comments as she shared her statement on Instagram after a UK court on Thursday denied Johnny Depp the right to appeal a ruling that he was beating his wife.
The actress apparently turned off comments on her post out of fear of reactions from Depp fans.
Two judges of the Court of Appeal dismissed his request to challenge the High Court’s decision, ruling that the initial hearing had been “full and fair”.
The trial judge “gave reasons for his conclusions in a way which has not even been shown to be vitiated by an error of approach or an error of law”.
Depp was unlikely to overturn a trial judge’s findings on purely factual issues, they added.
The initial ruling saw the “Pirates of the Caribbean” star ordered to pay the editors of the News Group Newspapers (NGN) £ 628,000 ($ 873,000, 733,000 euros) in legal costs.
His lawyers at the time called the decision “as perverse as it is puzzling”, arguing that a “mountain of counter-evidence” was ignored that “completely undermined” the allegations.
Earlier this month, Depp’s attorneys questioned Heard’s testimony, saying she paid only a fraction of her divorce settlement to a charity, rather than the entire, as she did. had claimed it.
Heard’s spokeswoman said the claims were “nothing more than a press strategy” which had “been firmly rejected by the court”.
The Sun added that the ruling “justifies the courageous evidence Amber Heard has given in court about domestic violence, despite repeated attempts to undermine and silence it by the perpetrator.”
Depp’s attorney, Joelle Rich, of the law firm Schillings, said: “The evidence presented at last week’s hearing further demonstrates that there are clear and objective reasons to seriously question the UK court decision. ”
