“Long Covid” – a syndrome that affects many people who have recovered from the acute effects of coronavirus infection, requires more study, Dr Anthony Fauci said on Wednesday.
” It’s real. It is not imaginary. These are people whose symptoms are real, ”Fauci said during a hearing of the Chamber’s energy and trade committee.
He exhibited the symptoms:
“Profound fatigue, muscle pain, temperature deregulation, inexplicable tachycardia, and what people call brain fog, which is just a strange feeling of not being able to concentrate or concentrate for a period of time,” said Fauci.
Tachycardia refers to an unusually fast heart rate. “They’re lying in bed and their heart rate is 110, 105, 115, which is markedly abnormal for a person sitting or lying down,” said Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
He said the National Institutes of Health had received $ 1.15 billion to study the problem. “You’ll hear more announcements,” he said.
“But it is a very disconcerting syndrome which, in my opinion, will have effects that go far beyond the epidemiological control of this syndrome.”
Asked about reports that the vaccination might help relieve symptoms, Fauci said more studies were needed.
“The problem so far is that it’s anecdotal,” he said. “A lot of people get better on their own anyway, and if you get the shot and feel better, you don’t know if it’s the vaccine or the spontaneous cure. So you will need to do a randomized trial to find out. “
