Disney has done a major overhaul of its 2021 slate, changing the release dates for big movies, including Black Widow and other big players. With the dates changing, comes the news that Black Widow and Cruella will be releasing in theaters and on Disney Plus simultaneously.
While Cruella will hold its original May 28 release date, Black Widow has been pushed back from May 7 to July. Both will be available through Premier Access, meaning they’ll cost an additional $ 30 / £ 19.99. Disney has yet to announce whether the films will mirror other Premier Access titles in the sense that once you pay the Premier Access fee, you keep the “rental” for as long as you have Disney Plus.
- Free Guy – postponed to August 13
- The King’s Man – postponed to December 22
- Deep Water – postponed to January 14, 2022
- Death of the Nile – postponed to February 11, 2022
The latest film affected is Pixar’s Luca. The film will no longer be released in theaters and will air exclusively on Disney Plus at no additional cost on June 8.
The president of Disney Media and Entertainment commented on the announcement. Stating that “By leveraging a flexible distribution strategy in a dynamic market that is beginning to recover from the global pandemic, we will continue to use the best options to bring The Walt Disney Company’s unparalleled storytelling to fans and families of the World. whole world. ”
