49 Calgarians contacted after a positive test of a staff member of the COVID-19 vaccination site

CALGARY – Alberta Health Services contacts 49 Calgarians who went to South Calgary Health Center for vaccinations on March 23 and 25 as they may have been exposed to a staff member who has since tested positive .
Officials say the risk of exposure is low due to wearing PPE and having safety protocols in place.

“The health worker worked at the site from 8 am to 12:15 pm on March 23 and from 8 am to 4:15 pm on March 25,” AHS said in a statement.

“AHS works directly with individuals and only those contacted by Health Link should be tested.”

On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw said more than 620,000 doses of the vaccine had been administered in Alberta.

The province announced on Tuesday 576 new cases and 301 people are hospitalized, including 58 in intensive care.

The province has said all Albertans who want the vaccine will be able to receive a first dose by the end of June.

Also on Monday, the province announced it was ending the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine for people under 55.
