Slime and Spongebob steal the show on Nickelodeon’s Saints-Bears show

What would make the NFL weekend more fun? Slime and Spongebob Squarepants, of course.

Nickelodeon and CBS have teamed up to broadcast their own family version of Sunday’s game between the New Orleans Saints and the Chicago Bears.

Noah Eagle, son of CBS broadcaster Ian Eagle, had the call for the game and was joined by Nate Burleson and Nickelodeon stars Gabrielle Nevaeh Green and Lex Lumpkin.

“This is a perfect opportunity to captivate a new audience of sports fans and footballers, while being a family show, so the family can watch everything as one unit and have fun,” Eagle said of the show.

The show focused less on stats and more on player fun facts, such as a player’s favorite ice cream flavor. Throughout the game there were breakdowns of the kid-friendly football rules, including explanations of the flags given by CBS star Iain Armitage from Young Sheldon.

The during-game graphics also boasted a certain Nickelodeon flair, with player comparisons with cartoon characters, bright colors, and fun animations.

The cartoon network’s signature slime was also present throughout the broadcast and could be seen on the front row and in the end zone after a touchdown.

Saints head coach Sean Payton even said on Friday he would be ready to be slim if New Orleans wins, instead of a more traditional Gatorade bath.

Prior to the game, Nickelodeon had a special episode of Spongebob “Sportspants” that featured sports-themed moments from the popular cartoon show.

Football fans on social media seemed to love the family show.
