And Oscar-winning actors Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem are currently in negotiations to play Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, respectively, in a new film for Amazon from writer-director Aaron Sorkin.

As reported by Deadline Monday, the movie stars are being courted for Sorkin’s Being The Ricardos, which takes a slice of life look at the iconic couple behind the groundbreaking 1950s comedy series I Love Lucy.

The film is said to follow the pair of stars – who played showbiz couple Lucy and Ricky Ricardo for six seasons from 1951 to 1957 – through a week of dramatic production on the Emmy-winning show, Monday through Friday. studio shooting.

Over the course of the film, the couple face a series of crises that could end both their careers and their marriage.

Lucy and Desi were married for 20 years, from 1940 to 1960, and had two children together: Lucie Arnaz, 69, and Desi Arnaz Jr., 67.

Sorkin, the Oscar-winning screenwriter behind The Social Network and The Newsroom, among many others, was initially only ready to write the new film.

However, after directing his excellent Netflix movie The Trial Of The Chicago 7 last year, he has decided to focus as a director on this new project as well.

Being the Ricardos would have first caught the interest of Cate Blanchett, before fellow Aussie Kidman started watching the role.

Nicole can currently be seen on HBO Max in the limited series The Undoing, and also recently completed another series adaptation of a book by Liane Moriarty after the famous Big Little Lies, titled Nine Perfect Strangers.

The Hours star also wrapped up filming on a new feature film titled The Northman, starring The Queen’s Gambit star Anya Taylor-Joy, and Nicole’s Big Little Lies teammate Alexander Skarsgard.

Interestingly, Kidman is no stranger to recreating a classic TV icon – she played the witch Samantha Stephens in the somewhat flawed Bewitched 2005 update, which starred Elizabeth Montgomery.
