New Walk in Covid Testing at Belfast Airport

Graham Keddie, Managing Director, BIA and Sophie Boyd, Project Manager, Randox Launch New Covid-19 Onsite Passenger Testing Partnership To Boost Consumer Confidence In The Travel Industry

A new ‘walk in’ testing facility has been launched at the airport, providing rapid PCR testing for those who need a negative test before traveling on essential routes.

The newly formed service will provide passengers with an economical, reliable and convenient Covid-19 testing service before their trip.
Graham Keddie, Managing Director of Belfast International Airport, said: ‘Many destinations now require passengers, who have to travel for essential reasons, to undergo a negative Covid-19 PCR test no more than 72 hours before the arrival. It is essential that we can introduce these measures, as the testing will help protect travelers and staff, and provide an increased level of confidence for those traveling when current lockdown restrictions ease.

“In the long run this should help the aviation and travel industry recover, but it’s just the start and we need to do more in terms of vaccines and testing. Swabs are administered by trained specimen collection officers, which decreases the likelihood of an inconclusive result. The tests are then carried out by scientists from Randox in a state-of-the-art test lab near the airport, ensuring that the price is kept to a minimum and that results can be returned quickly. We already have a close working relationship with Randox and are delighted to partner with them on this important development for the travel industry.
The new Covid-19 facility on site at Belfast International Airport provides an ideal location for passengers from all over Northern Ireland, with free parking available on site. Passengers can receive their certified results the next day, which if negative, allows them to get to their desired destination.
Sophie Boyd, project manager for the Randox Express Covid-19 testing service, continued: “We are proud to work with Belfast International Airport to make Covid-19 testing accessible, affordable and reliable for all travelers who must take essential trips. We have worked hard to make the PCR test as easy as possible for passengers. People can simply visit the airport’s website to book a test on a date and time that is convenient for them. They can then arrive for their test and receive their results the next day by email.
“It’s great to be able to provide this service at the airport and help them bring people back into the air when they are able to.”
This new test offer will strengthen the sanitary systems already in place at the airport in connection with the international “Protecting each other” campaign developed and promoted by VINCI Airports for all the airports in its network around the world.
Based on the hygiene recommendations issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), this campaign helped improve cleaning and disinfection protocols, the distance physical, personnel protection and communications with passengers since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. .
Randox’s Covid-19 test is available for booking now through the airport’s website and passengers will be able to visit a Randox test center at the airport or a Randox health clinic in Crumlin or Holywood. Prices are set by the test provider at a cost of £ 99.
